About US
The Young Marines of the Marine Corps League Inc
In 1959 in Waterbury, Connecticut, several Marine Corps League members formed an organization for boys that would mirror the values of the Marine Corps. Their vision – to offer leadership training and other life skills – formed the bedrock of the organization known today as the Young Marines. Years later, the program is a highly respected youth organization, for boys and girls aged eight through high school graduation, that has grown to over 300 units around the world. The focus, though, has remained the same: to strengthen the lives of America’s youth by teaching the importance of self-confidence, academic achievement, honoring our veterans, good citizenship, community service, and living a healthy, drug-free lifestyle. The core values - leadership, teamwork, and discipline - are well understood and practiced by all.

Recruit Training
Young Marines
Upon joining a local Young Marines unit, recruits undergo a minimum 50-hour orientation program, spread out over weekly meetings over two months. Youth members learn general subjects such as history, health, customs and courtesies, close order drill, physical fitness, military rank structure, how to starch and iron the uniform, shine boots, land navigation, first aid, and so much more..

We challenge recruits to push themselves physically and mentally.
Adult Volunteers and Young Marines give 100% of themselves to recruit training and we expect our recruits to do the same. Phrases like "I can't do that" go out the window and are transformed into positive affirmations of themselves and their peers.

Today's Young Marines are tomorrow's leaders. Young Marines introduces youth to Marine Corps perspectives on leadership through self-paced study, classroom instruction, and hands-on opportunities to apply leadership principles to real-world challenges.
Young Marines take on billets, work on ribbons and other awards, and are promoted to higher ranks.
As Young Marines advance through the program leadership schools and summer programs give them the opportunity to explore increasingly complex concepts and skills associated with leading others. Learn more at the links below:
